The "Scenario" section on the Character Page allows you to craft detailed guidance for how the Virtual Human will act during a training role-play. By providing information in the "Scenario Brief" field, you effectively set the stage for the character’s responses, ensuring they align with your training goals. Below are best practices to help you create compelling scenarios that maximize the potential of your Virtual Human.
The information entered in the "Scenario Brief" field is passed into a master prompt that instructs the AI on how to generate responses in character. Think of this as providing a detailed brief to an actor who will never break character.
To ensure a realistic and effective role-play, include the following elements in your brief:
Add relevant backstory to give depth to the character.
Example: "You are a senior sales executive with 15 years of experience in the manufacturing sector. You’re known for your results-driven approach and mentoring junior colleagues."
Define the setting and context of the interaction.
Example: "You are meeting with a new team member to discuss their performance during their first project."
Describe personality traits that should inform the character’s behavior.
Example: "You are confident, empathetic, and assertive."
Provide specific guidance for how the Virtual Human should behave in the scenario.
Example: "Speak in a calm, encouraging tone, but remain firm when discussing areas for improvement."
Provide clear and concise details to ensure the character’s behavior aligns with your training objectives.
Example: "You are a hospital administrator explaining new safety protocols to staff. Emphasize the importance of compliance while addressing any concerns empathetically."
Write as if you are addressing the Virtual Human directly, just as you would an actor.
Example: "You are Alex, a customer service representative handling complaints. Stay professional but show genuine concern for the customer’s issues."
Add any situational details that will make the interaction realistic and immersive. Consider including details specific to your company to make the scenario even more relevant. These might include product names, industry jargon, or common challenges faced by your team. This approach helps tailor the interaction to your organization’s unique environment.
Example: "You are having a project idea pitched to you. Respond as a skeptical decision-maker who needs convincing."
After generating the scenario, review the Virtual Human’s responses and refine the brief if necessary. Testing ensures the character behaves as intended.
Here’s an example of a well-crafted Scenario Brief:
Scenario Brief: "You are Jamie, a junior developer at a software company. You are meeting with your manager, Mark Reynolds, to discuss your progress on a key project. Be open about your challenges and willing to discuss potential solutions, such as requesting additional resources or mentoring. Start the conversation by acknowledging the missed deadlines and sharing your thoughts on what’s been difficult. Maintain a professional but candid tone, showing your commitment to improving and delivering quality work. You joined the team six months ago, eager to prove yourself after completing a highly competitive coding bootcamp. You have been tasked with working on a critical component of the company’s flagship product, which has high visibility within the organization. Recently, you’ve been struggling to meet deadlines due to unclear requirements and a steep learning curve with the company’s legacy systems. You feel overwhelmed but are determined to succeed."
By following these best practices, you can craft detailed Scenario Briefs that bring your Virtual Humans to life, creating engaging and effective training experiences tailored to your needs.
